ARTIST STATEMENT
Welcome to Venus Bernardo Photography, where each image is shaped by emotion, imagination, and artistic vision. My work explores personal narratives and creative expression, capturing moments that feel both intimate and evocative. My collection feature abstract works and montages designed to provoke thought, inviting viewers to interpret, question, and connect with each piece in their own way. Every photograph tells a story meant to resonate with the viewer. Each montage contains an image within an image, all photographed by me. Each piece is an offering: a quiet conversation between imagination and truth. Join me through this journey.
HISTORY
Venus Bernardo is a Los Angeles based photographer specializing in fine art, people and event photography. Her work surpasses normal distinction. Although she received her photography education at Santa Monica College in California, she credits her talents and abilities to God, the Original and greatest Creator. She takes notes and inspiration from Gordon Parks, Roy DeCarava, Ruth Bernhard, Henri Bresson Cartier, Johnny Simmons and others.
She began her photography career in photojournalism, joining the Sentinel newspaper in Los Angeles as photographer and photo editor in 1995. Later she made her way through the ranks of red-carpet photographers, shooting celebrities and Hollywood-type special events. Her most famous photograph, which continues to be published worldwide, is that of famed rapper Notorious BIG and Sean "P-Diddy" Combs — the last known photo taken approximately five minutes before BIG was killed in Los Angeles.
In 2007 she became a WireImage photographer. She has also been published in Architectural Digest, Newsweek, Vibe, Essence and several other print and television media worldwide.
Since the former days of her work in photojounalism she has turned her full attention to the ART of photography.
